OwlGuardian Terms and Conditions
Last updated: October 1, 2026
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of OwlGuardian ("we", "our", "the service"), an email security service operated by E.D. Doubleboo, Inc., a California corporation. By using OwlGuardian, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. The Service
OwlGuardian is an email security service that protects vulnerable individuals from phishing, fraud, and social engineering by analyzing incoming emails and alerting a designated Trusted Contact when threats are detected. The service is delivered through the OwlGuardian iOS app and the OwlGuardian web console at owlguardian.net.
OwlGuardian is offered as a subscription service. The Protected User — the person whose email is protected — is the account holder. A Trusted Contact is a person designated to review emails that OwlGuardian flags and to receive alerts.
Either the Protected User or their Trusted Contact may be the subscriber. Whoever subscribes is billed through their own Apple App Store account (see Section 5), and only that person is charged. A Trusted Contact is never charged unless they choose to subscribe on the Protected User's behalf. Each subscription covers one Protected User.
Both the Protected User and the Trusted Contact consent to participation during the account setup flow described in our Privacy Policy.
2. Eligibility and Accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an OwlGuardian account or to act as a Trusted Contact.
- The Protected User must explicitly consent to having their email monitored. Agreeing to receive text messages beyond the verification code is optional, as described below.
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
- You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during signup and to update it as needed to keep it accurate.
3. SMS Program Terms
Program name
OwlGuardian Account Verification and Notifications
Program description
OwlGuardian sends SMS text messages to users who have explicitly consented during account setup. Messages are transactional in nature and include:
- One-time verification codes for account setup
- Account notifications about monitoring status (approximately monthly)
- Security alerts related to your account
- Confirmations of opt-out or account changes
OwlGuardian does not send marketing, promotional, or advertising messages via SMS.
Message and data rates
Message and data rates may apply. Charges for receiving OwlGuardian SMS messages are assessed by your mobile carrier according to your plan. OwlGuardian does not charge for sending or receiving text messages. If your number is outside the United States, your carrier's international or roaming rates may apply.
Message frequency
Message frequency varies based on account activity. Typical volume is 1–4 messages per month for active accounts.
How to opt in
Each person gives text-message consent for their own phone number, on the screen where they enter it during setup — in the OwlGuardian iOS app or on our website. Next to an optional checkbox, unchecked by default, they see:
"I agree to receive text messages from OwlGuardian for phone verification, security alerts, and account notifications. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. Message frequency varies (typically 1–4 per month). OwlGuardian does not share consent or phone-number data with third parties."
Tapping "Send code" asks us to send one verification code, and we send that single text whether or not the box is checked. We send any other text message only to people who checked the box. We keep a record of whether the box was checked, when, and the exact wording shown.
How to opt out
You can stop all SMS from OwlGuardian at any time by replying STOP to any OwlGuardian text message. After you reply STOP:
- We will send one final confirmation message acknowledging your opt-out.
- No further SMS will be sent to that number.
- Any active monitoring of the associated email account is immediately terminated, and your Trusted Contact is notified.
How to get help
Reply HELP to any OwlGuardian text message for assistance, or contact us directly at support@owlguardian.net.
Supported carriers
OwlGuardian's SMS program is compatible with all major US wireless carriers, including AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint (now part of T-Mobile), as well as smaller regional and MVNO carriers. Carrier support for message delivery is not guaranteed; OwlGuardian is not responsible for messages that a carrier fails to deliver. Verification codes can also be sent to mobile numbers in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Israel, through local carriers there. Other OwlGuardian text messages are sent only to US numbers.
Data privacy
Phone numbers and SMS consent information are used solely for operating the OwlGuardian service and are not shared with third parties, affiliates, or any external entities for marketing, advertising, or any other purpose. See our Privacy Policy for complete details.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use OwlGuardian for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to OwlGuardian's systems, other users' accounts, or data not belonging to you.
- Use OwlGuardian to monitor the email of any person who has not provided explicit, informed consent.
- Interfere with or disrupt the service, its servers, or networks.
- Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity when signing up as a Trusted Contact.
Fair use and usage limits. OwlGuardian is built for normal personal email use. To keep the service sustainable and guard against accidental misuse or intentional abuse, each account has a reasonable monthly usage limit. In the rare event that an account's activity is far beyond typical personal use, automated scanning for that account may be temporarily paused for the remainder of the month. As the limit is approached, we will notify the Trusted Contact. If your account is paused, contact us at support@owlguardian.net and we'll review it and restore protection.
5. Subscription, Billing, and Cancellation
OwlGuardian is offered as a paid subscription through the Apple App Store. Pricing, billing cycles, and cancellation terms are governed by the App Store. You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID subscription settings.
Subscribing on someone's behalf. If you are a Trusted Contact and subscribe for a Protected User, the subscription belongs to your Apple ID. You are responsible for its charges, and only you can cancel it, through your Apple ID subscription settings. OwlGuardian cannot cancel it for you.
If you stop being the Trusted Contact. If the Protected User replaces you, your subscription stops covering them at the end of the period you have already paid for. It will keep renewing until you cancel it. We will email you when this happens.
If the Protected User subscribes too. A Protected User may subscribe for themselves at any time. If they do while you are subscribed on their behalf, we will let you know so that you can cancel. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple.
Telling each other who subscribes. So that nobody is charged twice, we tell the Protected User when their Trusted Contact is the subscriber, and tell the Trusted Contact whether the Protected User is already covered.
Revocation of monitoring by the Protected User (via the STOP keyword or the self-service control page) immediately terminates service to that account. Refunds, if any, are processed according to Apple's App Store policies.
6. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to OwlGuardian at any time, with or without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, to us, or to third parties. You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us at support@owlguardian.net.
7. Disclaimers
OwlGuardian uses automated analysis to identify potentially fraudulent email. Automated systems are not perfect. OwlGuardian cannot detect every scam or phishing attempt, and some legitimate messages may be flagged incorrectly. The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. You are responsible for exercising judgment about suspicious messages even when OwlGuardian is active.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, OwlGuardian and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including without limitation loss of profits, data, use, or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the service or by email to the Trusted Contact. Continued use of OwlGuardian after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
10. Governing Law; Jurisdiction and Venue
These Terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or relating to these Terms, OwlGuardian, or your use of the service — whether based in contract, tort, statute, or any other legal theory — are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
You and E.D. Doubleboo, Inc. agree that the exclusive jurisdiction and venue for any such dispute or claim shall be the state and federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California. Each party irrevocably (a) consents to the personal jurisdiction of those courts, (b) agrees that those courts are the exclusive venue, and (c) waives any objection to proceeding there, including any objection based on lack of personal jurisdiction or inconvenient forum (forum non conveniens).
