Comparison
Aura Trusted Family Access vs OwlGuardian: an Aura alternative for seniors?
The verdict
Aura is a full identity and fraud suite: credit, transactions, passwords, dark web, insurance, and add-ons for email and spam calls, now with caregiver access through Trusted Family Access. OwlGuardian is narrower and cheaper: it screens your parent's Gmail and puts a family member in charge of what gets released. Choose Aura for broad identity coverage, Android, or non-Gmail email; choose OwlGuardian if a Gmail-using parent mainly needs scam email stopped.
OwlGuardian publishes this page, so we have an interest in the outcome. This is not a hands-on review: we have not used Aura. Every fact about Aura comes from that company's own website or official app store listing as of 2026-10-14, and each page we used is listed under Sources. Products and prices change. If anything here is wrong or out of date, email [email protected] and we will fix it.
What Aura is
On September 17, 2026, Aura launched Trusted Family Access. With an adult member's permission, a caregiver can see alerts about credit changes, suspicious transactions, compromised passwords, public records and dark web activity. There are two levels: View Only, and View & Act, which lets caregivers manage some monitoring settings and update Vault records. The member chooses the level and can change or revoke it. Aura says caregivers cannot freeze or lock credit, dispute credit activity, or contact support for their loved one. It is available on web and mobile. Source
Aura's pricing page lists Trusted Family Access on the Family and Couple plans. Plans are Individual ($12 a month billed annually or $15 monthly, $1 million identity theft insurance), Couple ($22 or $29, $2 million) and Family ($32 or $50, up to five adults, $5 million). Every plan has a 14-day free trial, and annual plans bought from Aura have a 60-day money-back guarantee. Aura has iPhone and Android apps. Source
Aura also offers Email Protection as an add-on for adult members. Its page says it scans email in real time, labels flagged emails and moves them to a separate folder, and quarantines dangerous ones with warnings to the user. It lists Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, AOL and Yahoo. Aura does not publish the add-on price; it says to call. Source
Spam call and message protection is included on the Family plan or available as an add-on, per Aura's pricing page. Source
What we could not confirm: whether a caregiver using Trusted Family Access sees Email Protection alerts or can release a quarantined email. Aura's announcement does not mention email. If that matters to you, ask Aura before buying.

Choose Aura if
- You want identity theft protection: credit, dark web, passwords and insurance up to $5 million.
- Your parent uses Yahoo, AOL or iCloud email, which OwlGuardian does not support yet (Outlook and Hotmail are in beta).
- Your parent uses an Android phone.
- You want spam call and text protection in the same subscription.
- You want to cover several adults in the family under one plan.
Choose OwlGuardian if
- Your parent uses Gmail and scam emails are the main problem.
- You want a family member, not the protected person, to decide whether a suspicious email is released.
- You want your parent to see nothing new in Gmail and get no warnings.
- You want a scam check by voice for texts, Facebook messages and letters: "Hey Siri, call my Owl."
- You want a low, published price: $4.99 a month per protected person, 30 days free.
Using both: Aura covers identity, credit and broad account alerts; OwlGuardian puts a family member in charge of scam email in Gmail. A family that already has Aura for identity monitoring can add OwlGuardian for the email decisions, instead of or alongside Aura's Email Protection add-on.
